UNITED STATES. Liberty Head, 1850-1907.
20 Dollars, 1901 S. San Fransisco. Double Eagle.

The 1901 Liberty Head $20 Gold Coin produced 1.7 million coins, which is a large amount, however, far fewer survive today, mainly due to melting in later years. Liberty Head $20 Gold Coins were designed by James B. Longacre and were made at the Philadelphia and San Francisco mints, with many more coming from the latter facility.
For collectors, the fact that the Liberty Head $20 Gold Coin is no longer being produced means that now is the best time to acquire them. This is so because as time moves forward, there are only going to be fewer and fewer of these coins available for purchase.

For coins that are 100 years or older, the condition that the coin is in is something that can never be guaranteed. Thanks to years upon years of circulation, these coins will have plenty of wear and tear more often than not. While there exist well-preserved pieces, the vast majority of these coins have incurred some type of damage thanks to circulation.
